Bayern Munich football CEO Oliver Kahn has admitted he tried to sign Erling Haaland last year. But could not break the club’s salary ceiling.
Haaland joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund last year. The initial fee was £51 million, but the overall investment didn’t end there, leaving Bayern unprepared to pay that much.
“We tried everything to get Erling Haaland last year. But we have to face financial constraints.”
“We have to decide if we want to break our wage ceiling structure. We are not ready for that, that’s not Bayern,” Kahn told German newspaper Bild.
At the same time, Kahn also spoke to French media Lequipe. “The principle of truth is that we only spend what we can. Investing huge amounts of money on just one player is always very risky. Everything has to be done wisely.”
