Enrique Salas has been taken into police custody for questioning amid suspicions the 22-year-old Sevilla defender was involve in illegal football betting.

Spanish media outlet Ufabet reported on Tuesday that Spanish police have arrested 22-year-old Sevilla defender. Enrique Salas on suspicion of illegal gambling after receiving multiple yellow cards that raised suspicions.

Salas is currently contract until the summer of 2029 and has recently been link with a move to Lazio. But the Italian club are likely to pull out of the race. While Sevilla have yet to make a public statement.
Sevilla officials told Reuters they were still “gathering information” about the situation. Police officers detained Salas on the club’s premises after training and he was released after being questioned. He could face up to three years in prison for fraud.
LaLiga told Reuters they would ask to join the prosecution as a damaged party if the investigation were to lead to a lawsuit.
